What are your thoughts about what should be done with the campgrounds?
1.) Sell them
2.) Keep them
3.) Hybrid (sell some/keep some)
4.) Up for grabs, name your idea!
And God said, ‘Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.’ And it was so. 10God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. 11Then God said, ‘Let the earth put forth vegetation: plants yielding seed, and fruit trees of every kind on earth that bear fruit with the seed in it.’ And it was so. 12The earth brought forth vegetation: plants yielding seed of every kind, and trees of every kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that it was good. 13And there was evening and there was morning, the third day. Genesis 1:9-13 NRSV

I love the grounds as much as anyone but I feel we should sell all of the grounds. I want us to get the best price for grounds and timber. We have made some mistakes in building the cabin bathrooms to small. Not putting any insulation in the dinning hall and others. This sell will give us the opportunity to correct these problems. We do not have the money now to make these changes. Brother Jenkins I believe is mistaken about the amount of money we have on hand to spend.
ReplyDeleteI believe it would be cheaper to rebuild than the prices that have been given. I think those prices would be if we hired someone to come in and build it. The great thing about the campgrounds is that we built it from scratch, and it didn't all happen at one time. We came together as a community and buit it from the ground up.
ReplyDeleteA new campgrounds would be more energy efficient therefore cheaper to run also. As far as going together with the other mission center, that would depend on what they want. I'ver heard tale of a certain school campus in Mobile that the Gulf MC wants to buy. Don't know if its true, but I wouldn't be interest in going to camp in the city!
ReplyDeleteI think we should keep the camp grounds . We've had alot memories at this campgrounds . And if we sell it now alot of youth wont get the experience we did .
ReplyDeleteI am positive the strong presence of Spirit at Bluff Springs is in the people. I love the land and have grown up spending entire summers there. I am sure that if we sell we will carry the same Spirit with us, and possibly gain a few advantages with a newer place. I would hate to leave Bluff Springs, but I would do it with an open heart and mind.
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree, the spirit is in the people....It must be recognized that this land has very specific spiritual power in it's own right. I remember the elders talking about the feeling they had when they were there, and this is before people starting going to camp there. I have been there several times since my youth and it is clearly felt, even with no one else around. I think it would be a horrible idea to sell the campgrounds for any reason.
ReplyDeleteI remember growing up around that camp and watching the elders put their time and effort into building this place into the special place it is today. I watched many of the building being constructed. Some things change and some things should stay the same.
I vote to improve the current grounds and keep the spirit alive at Bluff Springs. It's a very special place.
What is unique about Bluff Springs is the sense of ownership that each camper has as they leave. They own their spiritual experience and share in being a steward of the campgrounds. It is easy to think about the money and the "what ifs" but we really risk losing people who may not seek out an "ownership" of a new campground.
